Festetics Castle

Festetics Castle

It is about 17 km from our hotel and is easily accessible by car.

The Festetics Castle in Keszthely is a masterpiece of Hungarian castle architecture and one of the most popular sights of the Balaton region. The castle museum has original halls furnished with authentic period furniture that illustrate the 18th and 19th century. In the picturesque English park you will find a palm house full of exotic plants and in the modern museum building you can admire the largest railway model exhibition in Central Europe besides the richest hunting exhibition of Hungary.

The Palm House was reopened in 2012 after almost 20 years of renovation. With its exotic plants, it evokes the tradition of royal and aristocratic orangeries and tropical greenhouses, presenting the finest varieties collected from Tahiti to Florida.

The carriage museum used to be the barn-carriage house of the Festetics estate in Keszthely. The material of the exhibition is mostly shown is the collection of horse-drawn vehicles related to the nineteenth-century aristocratic lifestyle, which is also significant in Europe.
